【摘要】:Laboratoryhidingpowermeasurementsofarchitecturalcoatingsgenerallyemployblade-typeapplicatorsthatlaydownfilmsofhighlyuniformthickness.Butpracticalapplicators,suchasrollers,pads,andbrushes,typicallyapplyfilmsthatlackuniformityduetoincompleteleveling,resultinginthepracticalhidingpowerofmostpaintsbeinglessthanthatmeasuredonfilmsappliedwithadrawdownblade.Thistestmethodsimulatespracticalapplicationproceduresandconditionssoastoprovideanindicationoftheactualhidingperformanceobtainablewhenapaintisappliedbyanexperiencedworker.Itisnotintendedtoduplicatepaintingasdonebytheaverageconsumer.Sincetherheologicalcharacteristicsofapaintanditsinteractionwiththeapplicatorareinfluencingfactors,rankordercorrelationbetweenthistestandonedonebydrawdownmightnotbeobtained.FIG.1PracticalOpacityChartinAccordancewithFootnote5andAppendixX11.1Thistestmethodmeasurestheabilityofapainttohideorobscureasurfacetowhichithasbeenappliedbyapracticalapplicationprocedure.Thistestmethodcoverstheuseofapaintroller,buttheconceptisexpectedtoworkequallywellwhentheapplicationtoolisapaintbrushorpaintpad.1.2Thevaluesstatedininch-poundunitsaretoberegardedasthestandard.Thevaluesgiveninparenthesesareforinformationonly.1.3Thisstandarddoesnotpurporttoaddressallofthesafetyconcernss,ifany,associatedwithitsuse.Itistheresponsibilityoftheuserofthisstandardtoestablishappropriatesafetyandhealthpracticesanddeterminetheapplicabilityofregulatorylimitationspriortouse.
